Speaker, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Asad Qaiser on Wednesday was told that Swat Expressway would be constructed at the estimated cost of Rs 38 billion in a period of two years. The meeting chaired by Speaker, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly reviewed progress on the project made so far. The meeting was told that Swat Expressway would be constructed on Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway from Karnal Sher Khan Interchange up to Chakdarra.

The 81-kilometer proposed road would be constructed on the pattern of Motorway where Karnal Sher Khan Interchange had already been completed. Other interchanges on the expressway will be constructed at Dobian (Yar Hussain), Ismaila, Bakhshali, Katlang, Palai and Chakdarra. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 38 billion and will be completed within a stipulated period of two years. With the construction of the Swat Expressway, the journey from Karnal Sher Khan Interchange will take only 45 minutes.

The meeting was further told that on the directives of the Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, the width of the Expressway has been enhanced from 45-meter to 80-meter. The meeting was informed that on the clear directives of PTI chief Imran Khan, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Speaker Asad Qaiser, the pace of work on the project has been accelerated. The project will benefit several new areas including district Buner. Furthermore, the meeting was also told that attention has been made on the matter that the project should not affect residential areas and agricultural lands and will be passed through such area to provide maximum facilities to the people.

Addressing the meeting, the Speaker, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Asad Qaiser said that the provincial government has further accelerated its efforts for formal starting of construction work on the project and will make utmost efforts for the redressal of hurdles and problems in this regard. He said that the project will play major and unique role in the development of the area and will usher a new era of progress and development. He said that efforts will be made to instead of the period of two years it should be completed in one and half year. The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Finance, Muzaffar Said and Advisors to CM, Mohibullah Khan, Dr Amjad Ali, Abdul Karim Khan, Abdul Monim Khan and MPA Mohammad Ali Shah.
